Certified Death Certificates

My husbands finances were messy and chaotic. I kept hearing that the more complicated the finances, the more certified death certificates you’d need. I paid for 20 not knowing what I’d need.

The mortgage carrier and banks wanted originals, but they scanned them and handed them back to me. Life insurance asked for a scanned version sent to secure email. Retirement account accepted a faxed notarized form packet. One credit card company wants an original sent by mail. The other credit card companies, so far, said they can get the information digitally on their end. I’m not done with the notifications yet, so I may end up still needing to give an original.

I likely could have been fine with 5 or 10, instead of 20.
