We graduated!
Long post, sorry not sorry.
Tuesday was such a special day, we officially graduated from our fertility clinic. Our little miracle is growing strong with a heartbeat of 171 bpm.
We had planned to keep our baby’s gender a surprise until the anatomy scan, but life had other plans. My husband’s grandma who raised him pretty much like her own became very ill, so after graduating from our clinic, we decided to go over there and show her the pictures. She already knew we were pregnant! But the hope is those pictures would keep her going (We also took a blood test because we wanted to tell her before she went)
We went straight to her house, hoping to share the news with her, but by the time we arrived, she had fallen into a deep sleep and couldn’t be woken. My husband wanted to wait until she was awake so she could truly hear the news, so we decided not to tell her that night.
The next morning, we got the call that she had passed away. Before she was taken away, we were given one last chance to see her. Standing beside her, we opened the results and finally said the words we had been waiting to share:
“It’s a boy.” 💙
She may no longer have been alive, but in my heart, I know she heard us. I’m so thankful we were given that final moment with her and that she left this world knowing she was going to have a great-grandson.
After talking with a friend, she suggested something that made me smile. At our anatomy scan, we’re going to have the nurse write the gender on a piece of paper and seal it up so we can still do the gender reveal cake we had always planned. It will be our way of celebrating our sweet boy all over again and still getting a little piece of the surprise we had hoped for. She even said at home blood tests aren’t always right so be prepared if it’s a girl lol
This week has been full of both joy and heartbreak. It’s reminded me that love and grief can exist side by side, and that even in the hardest moments, there is still so much to be grateful for.
