I feel I may never be as good as others

Question

Hello!

Sorry if the post is a bit long to readthrough, I just cannot get this feeling out of my head.

I'm currently halfway through my 1st year of my bachelor of Game Design and recently I have started to feel a little disappointed with myself.

I've been playing Deltarune lately and I just finished chapter 4 for the first time. It was amazing, yet afterward I felt a bit sad. How could I ever make something like this? How could I make something this good?

This is not the first time I've had this feeling, I experienced it a lot throughout high school, and back then I asked a friend what should I do? He said to not "compare myself with others and I should just focus on myself", which I did and it made me feel better.

However as time has gone on, that doesn't work anymore. While playing games I just think about how good the character/enemy designs are, I think about how clever the mechanics are and how they intertwine, and thinking about that just makes me think I could never create characters or mechanics as good as this. And no matter how much effort I put in I may never be able to create something as good as these.

I have been taking what I have been learning in my course and using them to improve. I have been trying to improve some game ideas I have had, and flesh them out more. I have been practicing at drawing, coding, modelling, etc. And I can see the improvements I have made compared to my previous work, which is good. However it doesn't feel like I am becoming more skilled, it just feels like I am getting better at what few things I can do.
