Should I stop playing crisis core reunion?

I recently beat the original FF7 and loved it so much. I watched the original secret cutscene about zack and cloud and wanted to know more about so I bought crisis core reunion.

But I haven't been enjoying the game so far, I'm on around chapter 5 and the gameplay loop has been kinda boring and I heard that they change the backstory a little bit considering they added angeal and genesis.

Is it worth to keep playing til the end? How does it hold up to the original games depiction of their flashback?
