Mahoosive ulcers after 6 extractions - any tips?
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my experience so far and ask for some advice because recovery has been much tougher than I expected.
Ten days ago I had 6 teeth extracted - 4 premolars for future braces treatment and both lower wisdom teeth (which were decayed). I knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant, but I don’t think I appreciated just how rough the recovery could be.
For the first week I was pretty much on a liquid diet and have only managed to start eating soft foods over the last couple of days. The extraction sites themselves seem to be healing well now, but the thing that’s completely floored me has been the mouth ulcers. I’ve ended up with three massive ulcers, including one right at the back of my mouth that’s been referring pain into my ear. They’re honestly far more painful than the extraction sites themselves and have made eating, talking and swallowing miserable.
Has anyone else had really severe ulcers after wisdom teeth or multiple extractions? I don’t seem to hear many people talking about them, but they’ve easily been the hardest part of recovery for me.
If you did get them:
- How long did they take to heal?
- Did anything actually help the pain or speed up healing?
So far I’ve been doing warm salt water rinses, using Bonjela (which doesn’t seem to do much), and I’ve just started taking L-lysine. My dentist also suggested putting salt directly onto the ulcers, but it’s almost impossible to reach the one at the back of my mouth (and it hurts like a MF!)
I’m also due to have my upper braces fitted soon, so I’m slightly worried that if my mouth reacts like this to extractions, I’m going to end up with another round of ulcers from the brackets rubbing.
I’d really appreciate hearing about anyone else’s recovery timeline after multiple extractions, especially if you also had wisdom teeth removed. Right now it feels like it’s been one thing after another!
Thanks!
