Best way to get great free guitar tones on PC? (Strat + Audio Interface)

QUESTION

I'm using a Donner DST-100T Strat with an Audio Array AI-04 interface on Mac and windows both. I'm mainly trying to get classic rock tones like Led Zeppelin , Guns N' Roses, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Queen, AC/DC, Dire Straits etc. I'm looking for clean to crunchy tones rather than modern high-gain metal.

I started with GarageBand on my Mac and actually liked some of the built-in amps, but I recently switched to Windows because my audio interface faced audio dropouts with mac. I also tried AmpliTube 5, but most of the good presets and gear are paid, which is out of my budget. I then tried Neural Amp Modeler/Gateway with models from Tone3000, but I found it difficult to get the sweet, clean/crunchy tones I'm looking for.

For those of you using free software, what's your setup? Which free amp sims, NAM captures, IRs, plugins or presets would you recommend for these kinds of tones? Any specific Tone3000 or ToneHunt captures, cabinet IRs, or EQ tips would be greatly appreciated.
