Repayment Plan Calculator Difference
I’m in the SAVE forbearance and contemplating switching to an IDR primarily to get my months start counting for PSLF. So, 3 months ago, I entered my info (AGI 2025, family size, retirement contribution, etc.) manually and I got IBR as the lowest at $139/mo.
Then, I tried the calculator again today but this time the system tricked me into hitting « Import » from the IRS (I say tricked because it was a single button, some confusing wording and I didn’t give it much thought and just selected Import) and now the IBR amount jumped to $180/mo and the lowest for me now is RAP at $150/mo.
I don’t know how the import info (2025 AGI is that much different from what I entered manually) and there’s no way to check what they imported. And, what’s worse is there’s no way to go back to Manual really even though it gives you the option to switch to manual and there’s no longer a box to enter retirement contributions, which I think gave me a deduction of some sort. And, the results are the same as the ones from the imported calculations. I’m a bit frustrated and thinking about calling the Student Aid office.
But, before I do that, does anyone know if, when I actually apply to switch from SAVE to one of the IDR plans, at that point it will give me the option to Manually enter vs Importing ? I’m afraid to hit the apply button now to even see because everything little action I take on that site feels irreversible… (sigh)
