My mom regrets having a daughter after I confronted her
TL;DR: My mom is secretly involved with another man while still married to my dad, but constantly judges and controls me over even having male friends or talking to my boyfriend. After I confronted her about the double standards, she said she regrets having a daughter and has stopped talking to me. I understand my parents' marriage has been unhappy for years, but I don't know if I was wrong for confronting her or how to move forward.
So, I'm in a really messy situation right now.
Basically, my mom has a boyfriend, or at least someone she's romantically involved with. My dad is still with us, and they're still married. I have a boyfriend too.
I found out about my mom's boyfriend through her chats and suspicious behavior, like constantly deleting messages. A while ago, we went on a trip to our hometown, just the two of us, and that guy joined us. He picked us up in his car, drove us around, and even bought me clothes. Another day, my mom met him again, and I later found out they are very much involved with each other. i didn't mean to snoop, i just saw it while emptying her recycle bin.
She has never talked to me about any of this, directly or indirectly.
The thing that bothers me the most is that she constantly taunts me about being on my phone, not studying, and talking to some guy late at night. I do have a boyfriend, and yes, I talk to him, but I also genuinely study late into the night.
She ruined my birthday two years ago too. Back then, I was single and had taken a drop year to prepare for JEE. I was genuinely focused on studying, but she created a huge issue literally the day before my birthday saying i'm wasting their money not studying and talking to some boy.
Now, she frequently taunts me about boys, I finally questioned her and pointed out that she does the same thing. She talks and flirts with multiple men online, not just her boyfriend. My dad knows about her boyfriend and is obviously against it. At one point, he even threatened to leave the house because of it.
After I confronted her, she completely lost it. She's not talking to me anymore and keeps saying things like she's "dead" to me, that I'm free to go wherever I want and talk to whoever I want, that she always wanted a daughter but now regrets having one, and that no one is there for her. She doesn't even allow me to have male friends, i can never take a boy's name in front of her, if i am clicking pictures she taunts me saying why are you clicking so many pictures and says i'm gonna send it to boysss.
I hate the double standards.
At the same time, I also understand where she's coming from. My parents have had a very troubled marriage. My dad used to have serious drinking problems and was extremely suspicious of her even before she actually started doing anything like this. So I can understand why she may have emotionally checked out of the marriage.
But I wish she had been honest with me. I wish we had the kind of relationship where she could tell me about her life, and I could tell her about my boyfriend without feeling judged. Instead, she's extremely against me even having male friends, which feels incredibly unfair considering everything.
One of my friend's moms even knows about her boyfriend and supports her daughter's relationship. I know every family is different, but I wish my mom and I could have had that kind of openness instead.
I genuinely don't know how to move forward from here. Am I wrong for confronting her? What should i even do?
