Upgrade paths from Timeless 2?
I’ve been enjoying the Timeless 2 immensely for maybe a year now, but I’m starting to think about upgrading.
There’s so much I love about it- the detail, the responsiveness. But I could find that it could improve for me in just a few areas…
-
a touch more bass. I’m not a bass head by any means but I find the Timeless 2 occasionally a bit lacking in this area.
-
more distinct instrumentation. On some tracks, instruments can be a bit (not very!) muddled.
-
a bit more immersion and soundscape.
-
that said, I don’t want to lose the detail I already love about the Timeless 2.
My library really does span almost all genres- rap, acoustic, folk, jazz, metal, bit of country, light electronica- so I do want a versatile set. I’ll be using this with my Hiby R4, so I’m not worried too much about what it’ll take to drive the new set. I would add that while my library is mostly FLAC there are some lower-quality MP3s present- so I’d prefer something that isn’t *too* harsh on poor recordings, but eh, it is what it is.
My price limit is $400. I feel that a hybrid or tribred set could make progress on some of the issues I’m describing, but I barely know where to start!
I realize that the Timeless 2 is great, and most of the gains from a sub-$400 set will probably be incremental…but eh, if anyone has ideas on upgrade sets I’d love to hear them!
