looking for advice: should I hire a taskrabbit or moving company?
Moving to a 2br about a mile away from my current spot in bushwick on 8/1. Landlord agreed to allow me to move large furniture in early on 7/30 (I asked bc I figured movers would be cheaper on that day).
The furniture:
- tempur pedic queen mattress and adjustable base
- regular full sized mattress
- 42" TV
- small folding dining table
- 4 small/light bookcases
- 1 tall but light bookcase
-1 tall heavy shelving unit
- 4 small/light coffee/end tables
- 2 dining chairs
- 1 light wicker chair
The move:
3rd floor walk up to 2nd floor walk up
Most quotes I've gotten are around $700-900 from movers although I'm hesitant to get too many quotes since they are incessantly calling and emailing me after getting quotes. Taskrabbits seem to be around $150/hr-$250/hr depending if they have their own truck. A Uhaul would be under $100 for the day on 7/30 if the taskrabbits don’t have their own.
Now, my issue is that I'll still have to personally move all my boxes out myself on 7/31, keep them in a van overnight, and move them in the morning of 8/1. That will be around or under $200 probably for the truck rental.
So I'm wondering if I should:
- rent a truck for the whole time 7/30-8/1 (about $300-400) plus 2 taskrabbits for just the furniture on 7/30(higher end seems to be around $400 for 2 ppl for 2-3 hrs) TOTAL $700-800
- hire taskrabbits with their own van for just furniture on 7/30 (probably around $400) and get my own van for 7/31-8/1 (about $150-200) TOTAL $550-600
- hire movers for just furniture on 7/30 (around $600-700) then get my own van for 7/31-8/1 ($150-200) TOTAL $750-900
- hire movers to do the whole job (furniture plus boxes) on 7/31 or 8/1 for about $900 (would require more communication with landlord and new tenants since they're moving from out of state so they might be able to come on 8/2 or evening of 8/1 if we can get everything done in the morning/afternoon)
I also am trying to consider any other things that may go wrong like Taskrabbits not showing up on time (I am supposed to move in the furniture on 7/30 at 3pm so I think I'd need them to be at my place around 1:30-2), potential damages from renting a van for 3 whole days, extra fees etc.
Basically I need some context or insight that would help me make this decision more confidently. I've always used friends and the occasional taskrabbit to move but never had this much heavy furniture so I'm not sure what to consider.
