Parental leave
So I’m currently on vacation. I was hoping baby would come this week. However doesn’t look like it as the week is almost over. Work is aware I’m expecting a baby and has been for sometime as I called Sedgwick months in advance as to have all my paperwork sent to me prior to being admitted at the hospital. I know it’s easier to start the leave at the beginning of the work week and I live far from work. I’d like to be home when the baby comes to drive my wife and the chances of them coming on my day off is slim.
Has anyone taken their leave shortly before the birth? After looking over the parental leave policy in my packet it just says the leave 1.) Does not have to be taken consecutively, but each week must be taken in full week increments & 2.) Must be taken within 6 months OF the birth, adoption or other eligible event.
I imagine that means I could start it shortly before the birth as it doesn’t say “must be taken within 6 months following the birth, adoption or other eligible event” does anyone have experience with this before? Also how does it work if you give birth in the middle of the week? Do you just have a couple days that are counted as called off until the start of a fresh week? And when spreading out the 6 weeks do you have to submit paperwork again for a new claim?
I understand starting it this coming week could cause a delay in pay as we haven’t even been admitted yet but we do believe the baby is coming this week. Will also be having my portion of the paperwork filled out and sent until receiving the birth facts sheet at the hospital as I know a legitimate certificate has to be applied for and won’t come in the mail for some time.
