Horizon Walker (Steam) Google login on CrossOver on M1 Macbook Air (Platform Login Error: GOOGLE) - anyone got it working?
Hi everyone,
I've been trying for hours to get the Steam version of Horizon Walker working on my M1 MacBook Air through CrossOver, and I've reached the point where I think this may be a compatibility issue rather than a setup problem.
My setup
- MacBook Air M1
- macOS Sequoia 15.6
- CrossOver 26.2 (official CodeWeavers release)
- Windows 11 bottle (also willing to test Windows 10)
- Steam version of Horizon Walker
- Game Build ID: 24004358
My account
- Originally created on Android using Google login.
- Later transferred to iPhone, where it is now connected to Apple.
- The account works perfectly on iPhone.
The problem
The game launches perfectly.
When I click "Sign up with Google", the whole game (sometimes the whole Mac) freezes for several seconds.
No Google login window ever appears.
Eventually the game returns to the login screen.
Things I've already tried
- Installed Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime inside the bottle.
- Verified WebView2 installed successfully.
- Verified the game's Chromium files exist:
- libcef.dll
- chrome_elf.dll
- WebView2Loader.dll
- VuplexWebViewWindows.dll
- VuplexWebViewChromium
- Reinstalled nothing is missing.
- Official CrossOver (not CX Patcher).
- D3DMetal on Auto.
- Tried Chromium launch flags (
--disable-gpu, etc.) which actually caused the game to crash even harder. - Looked through Player.log and Chromium logs.
Logs
Player.log contains:
Platform Login Error : GOOGLE
The Chromium log shows things like:
DCompositionCreateDevice3 failedWSALookupServiceBegin failedWindows WebAuthn API failed to load
but it never appears to successfully navigate to Google's login page.
Additional info
The game uses:
- Unity IL2CPP
- Vuplex WebView
- Embedded Chromium (CEF)
It appears the browser initializes, but the Google OAuth flow never completes.
My question
Has anyone successfully logged into the Steam version of Horizon Walker using Google under CrossOver, Whisky, Wine, or GPTK on Apple Silicon?
At this point I'm trying to determine whether this is:
- A Horizon Walker issue.
- A Vuplex/CEF compatibility issue with Wine.
- A CrossOver-specific issue.
- Something wrong with my configuration.
