Are MacBook M5 Air and M5 Pro actually worth the price difference if they use the same chip?

I’ve been trying to understand something and wanted to hear real user opinions.

The MacBook Air M5 and MacBook Pro M5 basically use the same chip, so at first glance it feels like the performance should be very similar. That made me wonder: is the Pro actually worth the extra money, or is it just “marketing + better build”?

From what I understand so far, the differences seem to be more about the device than the chip itself:

  • The Air is fanless, thinner, lighter, and focuses on portability and silence
  • The Pro has active cooling (fans), better sustained performance under heavy load, and better display (XDR / Mini-LED depending on model)
  • Pro also tends to handle long workloads (video rendering, coding, multitasking) more consistently without throttling

But in real-world daily use (web browsing, office work, media consumption, even light dev work), I’m not sure if most people would actually notice a big difference between them.

So my question is:
👉 If both have the same M5 chip, is the MacBook Pro actually worth the extra cost?
Or is the Air already enough for most users and the Pro only makes sense for heavy sustained workloads?

Would love to hear experiences from people who switched between the two or use them professionally.
