It was one of the biggest hits of 2025, reaffirming the franchise's global power; however, it wasn't an unqualified success when looking at the nuances.

First, while the drop-off wasn't as steep as with previous installments, it continued the franchise's downward trend, losing its status as an IP that grosses a billion dollars per entry. Furthermore, it set an unwanted record: the worst CinemaScore rating since 2001,a "B",which is terrible for a PG-13 film.

It is also evident that the film was heavily front-loaded; it opened with $322 million and finished with $874 million worldwide. For comparison, *A Minecraft Movie* opened with $313 million and finished with $960 million, while *Lilo & Stitch* opened with $303 million and hit the billion-dollar mark; clearly, the dinosaur movie lacked "legs." Another factor is its domestic performance: after a five-day opening of $147 million, it finished with a domestic total of $339.1 million. By contrast, *Despicable Me 4* opened with $122 million over five days and finished with $362 million domestically, a historic level of front-loading for any film. Undoubtedly, much like *F1*, another film we’ve discussed, this one relied heavily on the international box office, and even there, the results show mixed signals. China is a prime example: it grossed $89 million there, whereas *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire* brought in $132 million; this suggests even its biggest market is losing interest. Factor in high salary costs and a $225 million production budget, and while it might ultimately yield the highest profit, the margin compared to lower-grossing films may not be significant. In short, profits are already shrinking, and this situation puts the long-term future of the franchise at risk—something Universal is well aware of. For comparison, a sequel to the 2025 *Superman* film was announced the same year, yet there is absolutely no word on a *Jurassic World 8*.
