[Question] Does anyone know how to decode newer Seiko serial #’s?
I’ve been trying to find some gems on Facebook Marketplace as I do often. It’s riddled with fakes, as most of you may know. I stumbled upon a nice 5 Sports GMT for a pretty good price. It’s slightly worn, comes with the original box, full links, etc. and the guy is asking 270. Everything looked good except for the serial, which starts with a 0. That didn’t make sense to me because from what I’ve read online, that would mean the year of production ended in a 0. Also from what I’ve read online, this specific watch wasn’t produced until 2022, so it wouldn’t make sense to start with a 0. Someone said that Seiko serials are just randomized now, but it wasn’t a reputable source so I just wanted to come on here to ask if anyone knew.
