Can over drying your clothes cause a strange smell

Today I wasnt paying attention to how my dryer settings were because theyre usually always the same, somebody mustve turned it to much longer, on a high heat. I went later on to take my clothes out and they had like a toasted mildew kind of smell hard to describe. What is my next move to get that smell out? Ife noticed it a bit before sometimes in my clothes but today it was actually strong. Im thinking of just hang drying my stuff from now on
