Query on Legal Risk of Leaving College Without Notice Amid Document Withholding Dispute(urgent)

Legal Advice Needed

I am currently enrolled in a private engineering college in Bangalore, which retained my original 10th and 12th standard marksheets and required me to sign an undertaking committing to pay full four-year fees if I withdraw early, failing which the documents would not be returned. Having since secured admission to a better-ranked institution, I obtained duplicate marksheets through the proper channels and intend to transfer without formally notifying my current college of my withdrawal. A lawyer who reviewed the undertaking has advised that it is unlikely to hold up in court, and I additionally have an attested statement from the principal explicitly confirming that the originals will only be released upon payment of an extra ₹9 lakh. Given this, I’d like to know whether leaving without formal notice could expose me to any legal risk.
