Tried sardines for the first time, went terribly.
Hey, I decided to give sardines a shot since the health benefits seemed worth it. I worked myself up to trying King Oscar Jalapeño on a saltine cracker, and the flavor was incredibly repulsive. I couldn’t exactly taste any fish, maybe a slight metallic flavor - but something else that permeated the fish. After chewing it for a few seconds, with the intention to eventually swallow, I gagged and had to spit it out.
I feel quite disappointed and yet stubborn about accepting that this was my first (and possibly my last) sardine experience. This couldn’t really be all that sardines are for me, right? I’m open to recommendations of anything else that don’t have another flavor permeating the fish. Or maybe sardines just aren’t for me! Who knows! Still would love some insight.
