Around the end of May, I treated myself to a new slate blue MasterTouch. After assembly and the initial burn in, I cooked a couple of hot dogs, then put it to bed. The next day I went to fire it up and noticed some flakes on the lid and realized that the enamel had chipped underneath where the handle mounts to the lid. Filed a warranty claim and Weber replaced the lid.

I was asked to grill for a local event for about 60 people (wings, burgers, and hot dogs) so, I was concerned about whether this would be large enough of a grill to do enough wings. Honestly, i could probably make it work but it gave me the “excuse” I needed to justify buying another kettle, and the after the event I plan to gift it to my best friend.

A New ivory MasterTouch arrived yesterday, I assembled it, and did an initial burn in. I got up this morning and was moving things around on the deck and found the exact same chipping on the lid of this MasterTouch too. Filed another warranty claim this morning.

If it was just the one occurrence I’d consider it a fluke but now that it’s happened twice in such a relatively short period of time it’s got me curious whether this has become normal or whether this kind of damage has been seen before. I did a little Google/Reddit searching but didn’t see much, although I could have easily overlooked it.

So, anybody else seeing this?
