Why are men in Montreal so scared of wearing sandals?

Montreal is the first city I have ever been to wear it seems men don’t wear sandals. It’s 40c outside and people are wearing boots and thick ass shoes. Went to a house party and everyone took off their shoes and the whole house stunk.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but it’s ok to wear sandals guys!
