Is it dangerous to inhale pipe tobacco?

So I load pipe tobacco into those little cigarette tubes, and when I smoke I actually inhale just like you would a cigarette. My dad is a cigar smoker and he is actually advising me not to do that and to just smoke it like a cigar. Thoughts?
