[WTB] Thick book of random multiple-choice questions with parenthetical ( ) checkboxes. Dark brown cover, gold text. Seen at Barnes & Noble in May.
Hi everyone, I am trying to track down a book that I read with a friend in May at a Barnes & Noble, but it has since vanished from the store and their inventory system. I've been back to the store twice and spoke with multiple staff and the inventory manager. I'm going to give details to the best of my (and my friend's) memories:
Where/When it was seen:
- Location: Barnes & Noble in Hingham, MA (Derby Street Shops).
- Section: It was on an end cap (possibly bargain/gift remainder) located right outside the restrooms, near the oversized art/history books and craft/crochet kits.
- Timeline: May 7 or 21. It was not part of a Father's Day or Graduation display.
Physical Description:
- Cover: I believe it was a fairly smooth, untextured dark brown (possibly faux-leather but I am unsure of this detail).
- Title: A short title printed in small, gold foil lettering centered in the top-middle/upper-third of the front cover. The title might have included the words "choices" or "questions." It was short and to the point enough that when walking out of the restroom it grabbed my attention and I picked it up and asked my friend a few questions, and then decided to sit in the cafe and continue.
- Size: Closer in size to a small paperback, but it was notably thick. Not a thin gift book or a fill-in journal and not pocket-sized.
Interior Layout & Formatting:
- The Structure: I think it was strictly multiple choice. No open-ended questions, essay prompts, or writing lines that I can recall. It's possible I'm not remembering that piece correctly because I only chose the multiple choice for quickness and ease of reading aloud.
- The Checkboxes: Underneath the questions, the choices are arranged in a vertical column. Every choice is paired with an empty set of parentheses
( )or brackets used as checkoff boxes, NOTa. b. c.formatting. - Variable Lengths: Some questions had just a few answer options, others had a long list of choices. I am not 100% every question was multiple choice, but those are the ones I remember.
- Scoring: There was no psychological scoring key, personality profile, or answer index at the back. It was strictly for entertainment/conversation.
Content & Tone:
- It was a mix of random, general questions, some serious, some hilarious/absurd hypotheticals, and a few mature relationship or sex questions. It was perfect for reading out loud to a friend to put her on the spot but I think the book itself wasn't designed as a couples or two-player book as far as I can remember.
- Specific Question Remembered: I have been wracking my brain trying to remember a specific question. I feel like there was something about a hot dog or condiments, and I know there were a few sex questions.
It is not "The Book of Questions" by Gregory Stock (which is all open-ended) and not a standard "Would You Rather" book. Not just binary choices, so wasn't "This or That." It seems likely it was a proprietary B&N bargain print or a specialized gift press run (like Cider Mill Press or Rock Point), though I checked those websites and couldn't find it.
Any help finding the title or ISBN would be incredibly appreciated so my friend and I can finally finish it! Thank you!
