Hi everybody. My place is in shambles and I’ve had brand new grow lights sitting in boxes yet to be used for months now, and this holiday weekend my goal is to set everything up! I have this huge glass display box as my cabinet that I want to one day turn into a huge terrarium. It only came with 2 glass shelves and no top. My dilemma is that if I want to be able to put stuff (more plants) on top of it, I need to use one of the 2 shelves it came with as the top, leaving me with only one shelf, 2 (very tall) levels and am concerned with lighting not being able to reach the plants if I were to keep the shelves around the same height as they are now. To solve this, I planned on having one very short shelf and one taller shelf, but am afraid the light would still be too far away from the plants at the very bottom of the taller shelf no matter what I do. I have purchased little acrylic suction-cup shelves (meant for windows) to put along the sides of the glass in the taller shelf space so I can have some plants closer to the light and to have more space in general.

Shelf dimensions: 60inches tall, 24 inches wide and 24 inches deep.

I have an assortment of grow lights including the ones in the shelves currently (which will be removed), some barinna t5 lights (4 1ft strips), some vivosun strips (4 24inch long strips and 8 1ft long strips), and the light in the third picture (100watts, but dimmable). I originally purchased the 24inch vivosun lights for this cabinet, so I would have 2 strips per shelf, but unless I position them horizontally, they will not fit. Plus, I since then have purchased the 100watt MetryGrow light so I was thinking I could use that light for the taller shelf and the 4 barrina strips for the shorter shelf in this cabinet? I’ve never used a 100 watt grow light before but I purchased it for 50% off and it was highly recommended so I wanted to take advantage of the deal. I grow a lot of begonias and would probably put them on the shelf with the t5’s and not the MetryLight. I would put on the taller shelf with the MetryGrow light plants like philos on moss poles, Hoya props on the suction cup acrylic shelves, etc. I also was hoping I could use the MetryGrow light as the light for the entire cabinet (top to bottom) when I am ready to turn it into a terrarium, hoping the output would be strong enough even for 4ft below it.

Thoughts?
