Why does a captured promoted queen show up as a captured pawn?

I'm super new to chess so pardon my ignorance. I noticed that when my opponent promotes a pawn to a queen and I capture that newly promoted queen, the captured pieces display shows that I captured a pawn instead of a queen.

I understand that the promoted queen originally came from a pawn, but on the board it's a queen. So why do chess.com display it as a captured pawn? Is this just a UI/design choice or is there another reason behind it?
