AIO or do my my friends hate me?

👥 friendship

I (32F) have been friends with Friend A (32F) and Friend B (31F) since high school and over a decade now. We even lived together for 3 years before deciding we needed our own space, which was done amicably and with no hard feelings at all. In the past year however, things have seemed weird. Granted, our friendship has always felt like I have been the one who needs to fold/put in work, but since living alone, it seems amplified. Here are a few key events that have occurred in the past 6 months that have really made me think:

  1. For the past 5 New Year’s eve, Friend B and I have always gone to the movies and do a double feature. Friend A doesn’t join because she has always had plans with work friends or other friends, which no big deal. This year Friend A is around and wants to join our movie night, which great!! I think get a text from both of them on a random Tuesday afternoon saying “Hey! We want to see Strangers Things on NYE and already bought our tickets! It’s filling up fast so you better buy yours before the ones next to us are gone! If you can’t, just buy a random seat alone”. Not terrible, if it wasn’t for the fact that i dislike ST, have never watched past episode 2, and they know all this. I don’t want to be left out though so I just buy anyways.

  2. Same week, I then get another text about NYE saying Friend A’s sister is now coming and they decided they want to do dinner at this one italian place and I’m invited if I “want” to come. They had already picked the place and time, and I wasn’t told until reservations were about to be made. Won’t lie, this stung and I said I couldn’t do dinner but would see them at the movie still.

  3. Few weeks later, they get tickets to HS in London which is awesome and I’m happy for them (i don’t listen to HS). Then find out they are doing a two week trip in France, London, and Amsterdam with Friend A’s sister. I wasn’t invited and wasn’t hurt until some of my other friends/family pointed out it was a little weird. If anything, it would’ve been nice to be asked, but not the worst.

  4. A few more weeks later I ask Friend B if she led want to go see Djo in Florida (Friend A doesn’t listen to him really and wasn’t around that date anyways). She says no, she needs to save money which I completely understand. However, she then adds “I also like to keep my summers open just in case”. Why did we have to add that last line? Saying you had to save money was enough and it made me feel like I wasn’t worth it.

  5. I invite both Friend A and Friend B to an art fest happening by me in the city. Friend A says yes I should be able to! Friend B says sadly no she has family coming to visit. Next day, Friend B texts and says family no longer coming over, “I can go now! Can we also do the Farmers Market”? Have to tell her no, sorry it’s moved for the art fest. She then texts back and says family “Oh, I’m a maybe then. Let me look at the vendor list”. Like what????? 3 days go by and don’t here from either of them so I text the night before asking. Friend A says yes, should be able too still! Friend B now says “no sorry. I was in the city too late today and want tomorrow to rest”. Great okay. Next morning? Text from Friend A saying “Sorry can’t come anymore. Have to do some stuff around the house before a work dinner”.

  6. Get a text from Friend A this Wednesday asking me and Friend B if we’d be able to hang out this weekend. I say “Yes, I’m free Saturday and Sunday!” and Friend B says no because she’ll be with family. It’s been 3 days and no response from Friend A to hang out. However, she did find time to text me today to ask me to dog sit for her family… But that is it of course.

Anyways, sorry for such a long post. These are just some of my most recent examples and things that have truly hurt my feelings and made me feel like maybe I value this friendship more than they do. Any thoughts? I do think that part of this is my fault, since historically I have not really spoken up to let either of them know when I am upset/hurting. This has more so been out of fear of them cutting me off completely, as they have with others in the past.

AIO? Do my friends not like me? Or do I just need to stop being so sensitive? Any feedback is helpful and thanks so much!
