Hot Take: The (latest) Macbook Air Keyboards suck.
My observations are based on:
- M1 Macbook Air (ex-work-laptop)
- M2 Macbook Air (given to test out in Apple Store)
- M4 Macbook Air (my own device)
- M5 Pro 16 Inch Macbook Pro (girlfriends laptop
- M1 Pro 14 Inch Macbook Pro (work laptop)
I looved the Keyboard on my M1 Macbook Air, never thought about a lack of quality in 5 years. Until now works great. Then bought the M4 as a successor and the keys work but are mushy and don't feel tactile at all. They don't spring back like the ones on the M1 or the M1 Pro. I went to the Apple Store because of something underneath a key and reported this to them. They said it's finde and gave me a M2 Air to test against. Same mushyness!
Both Airs did not have a tactile feel to the keys. My girlfriend just bought a Macbook Pro M5 Pro and the keyboard is stellar and worlds superior to the one on the M4 and M2 Air.
So: anyone with similar/contrasting observations? Anyone has a Pro and Air from the same generation and the keyboards feel equally good?
Looking forward to hear if it's just me or there's been a change in tactileness due to the change of chassis on the air or something similar.
