A weird experience in Germany (Racism)
I am a student in Germany and I have seen an increased amount of racism in the past few months, especially in the kids here. Previously, barely anyone would be bothered with a Desi minding his own business.
But due to the increased influence of Afd (Right wing German party), things have changed. The rowdy kids mostly second generation immigrants from Syria, Morocco, Yemen, etc have come to the realisation that the Indian immigrants are rather docile, which means they can f*ck around with us without repercussions.
Incident 1: An Indian guy who looked in his mid 30s, looked like a corporate guy, was being bullied by some German kids, I overheard them and they were actually arguing with him in English and using derogatory terms in German, they said why he should go back to India and stuff, I tried stepping in with whatever little German I knew and they just went away like cowards.
Incident 2: In the market at night, there is a group of these Arab-German kids (17 to 20 yo ig) sit and they tried harassing me, first just doing that good ol “tingadingading” and “ay inder gehmal zurück” which basically means go back to your country. Again, they expected me to ignore, which I simply did not and stood there and started asking where youre from when he told me Syria, I just laughed, then I tried to intimidate them (I was scared myself but something told me I need to break the stereotype that indians are weak), I said “Machst du gut oder machst du wie talahon, ich kann einfach die bullen rufen”. The one blonde German kid tried to be polite saying that his friend is just having fun, after which I walked away.
Incident 3: Basically got called “Curry Mensch” by literally 10 yo kid in a bus.
There are more but what really makes me wonder is that a year ago, I never faced these kind of incidents even once. Maybe it is because of the hatred on the internet which people like me staying abroad are facing firsthand.
