My Biggest Lesson From a Moment of Curiosity
This evening, while I was riding my bike with my friend, he mentioned that there were videos online showing how to turn off e-rickshaws remotely. He asked if I had ever tried it.
I had already downloaded the app after seeing a lot of reels about it, but I had never actually used it. Out of curiosity, I handed my phone to my friend while I was driving and told him to see if it really worked.
After a while, a few vehicles appeared on the app. He connected to one of them and accidentally turned it off. There were four people sitting inside the e-rickshaw. After two or three minutes, they got out, and we continued on our way.
But the whole time, I felt terrible. It didn't feel right. I told my friend that we should go back and check if everything was okay. He said, "Let's just leave it. They'll get suspicious." I replied, "No, I'll delete the app right now." So I deleted it.
When we went back and asked the driver what had happened, he said the e-rickshaw had suddenly stopped working. They thought someone had turned it off remotely. We tried to help, but by then I had already deleted the app, and it had been banned, so we couldn't download it again.
Then I suddenly remembered that one of the e-rickshaw drivers who regularly transports goods for my business had told me about this issue before. Even though it was already night, I called him and asked where he was. He said he was far away, but I told him we were coming to pick him up. We brought him there, he got the e-rickshaw working again, and then we dropped him back.
Only after that did I finally feel relieved. Otherwise, I would have carried that guilt for a long time.
Please don't do this to anyone. Most e-rickshaw drivers are hardworking people, and many of them aren't very educated. If their vehicle gets turned off like this, they may end up spending their entire day's earnings just to get it working again.
We never know what someone is going through, so let's not make life harder for them just for fun or curiosity.
