How to avoid dropping combo with lag?

Hey, I'm getting a bit into PVP lately and learning from youtubers. One thing I have problems with is that I accidentally drop combos when facing a laggy oponent, especially when I try to continue the combo switching characters.

I do Attack -> dash forward -> switch -> attack.

It works in most matches but I drop the combo when there is lag. I've seen people do Attack -> switch -> dash forward -> attack, but I drop it with that too
