Upright cards that seem to contain reversal meanings, how do you proceed?

Theory and Technique

I don't usually pull with reversals because it feels difficult to shuffle a deck truly randomly, however I've noticed a pattern in some readings where it would make more sense for the upright card to have its reversed meaning in the context of the reading, is this something that's okay to practice? Or will I be interpreting the wrong message if I start doing this?

For example, if someone comes to me asking for a love reading for their partner that is having ego issues, and I pull the upright King of Wands in their reading, it feels more like that's referring to the partner's ego issues and shadow instead of what's usually positively associated with that card. But then again, I can see how this card could also point to that ego having the possibility of being channelled into the more positive traits of the King of Wands.

What do you usually do when things like this happen in readings, how do you interpret them? Or is it just better to read with reversals? Thanks for reading and for your insights!
