I thought you were different

You were standing out curbside, there clear as day.

You were 4.97, in the best kind of way.

When your exit was closed, and we detoured around,

“Hey man no worries. Not really time-bound.”

Your talk had the cadence of the peacekeeping friend,

So chill and polite as we rounded the bend.

We spoke and connected, long drive but great vibes,

I drove 10 people that day, but you were the high.

So when you said firmly, with truth in your voice:

“I’ll tip in the app man, this ride was choice”

I thought maybe this time that when you said bye,

This chill interaction wouldn’t end in a lie.

But this wasn’t so; no tip was received.

Like so many others, I should not have believed.

I’m not mad at the money; that wasn’t the grief.

I just wanted one promise to earn my belief

🥲
