2014 Mazda 3 break light switch

My friends 2014 Mazda 3 wont start, after some precursor research it looks like the brake light switch isnt registering that the brakes are being pressed and therefore the push button wont start the car.

So I used this video to replace it (part no. BN7N-66-490) but its still not registering that the brake is being pressed.

Any ideas what the next plan of attack should be/ what i should look into?
