I’m 26F and a bit of a girl boss. I co own and run a little shop inside a larger department store with my mom.

My year started off so great. I was feeling genuinely optimistic. In late March, I finally achieved a dream I’ve had for 8 years: I learned to ice skate over the winter and joined two ice hockey clubs (let’s call them Club A and Club B)! I made a friend there ("M", who lives close by) and was having the time of my life. I even scheduled a tattoo I’d been wanting for early May.

Then, suddenly, the universe decided I was too happy and everything went downhill fast. Here is the absolute rollercoaster of my life lately:

\- My mom returned from a trip where she discovered an abnormal growth on her kidney (in china she did a full CT scan just to check her general health). She’s had high blood pressure and struggled to work ever since. (Thankfully we just found out it isn't cancer, but it's a growing tumor that requires surgery soon).

\- A week after I got my tattoo, I got hit by a car while biking on a roundabout. I had the right of way, but the car clipped my rear wheel while I was going 25km/h. I smashed my knees and elbows and couldn't work for a week. Half of my bike is totaled.

\- Right after I was able to go back to work, I found out I was pregnant with an IUD. I immediately scheduled an abortion since it was totally unplanned (and high risk), but had to hide it from my mom to avoid her nagging me to keep it. I worked three days right after the abortion before collapsing from the pain, forcing my mom to cover for me and admitting I was pregnant. (She was upset but eventually accepted it since it would have been a risky pregnancy).

Side note: Amidst the pregnancy scare, my fiancé and I decided to try to buy a larger, new build house, meaning we suddenly have a 2-month deadline to make massive life/financial decisions (kitchen, bathroom, planning, etc.).

\- A week after getting my tattoo, suddenly, my hockey friend "M" (21F) turned her back on me, saying she "didn't want to be seen as a duo." Which was odd to me because we were good friends the entire time.

\- When I finally went back after 5 whole depressing weeks, she completely ignored me besides hello’s and bye’s.

\- I ended up venting to another girl, "K" from club B, when she asked me what happened between us. K suddenly proceeded to talk major shade about M which made me think they got beef during my absence of 5 weeks.

Plot Twist: after talking to M about it, turns out, M and K are actually friends. K was spreading lies and even mocked me behind my back. Why? I had no idea what the f is wrong with these girls. Me and M are left unsure who is the liar and who is telling the truth.

\- Later I discovered why M unfriended me: All because the moment was gone after my tattoo, some guys from club B has been asking: “Hey M, where is your friend?” or “Where is M’s friend?”. Worst part, no one remembered MY name (I have a difficult name). People were associating ME with HER. Not the other way around. I guess she was ashamed of me instead of seeing me as a true friend. So she dropped me entirely. Literal high school drama from these 21 year old kids. Yet they managed to give me mental stress and a few sleepless nights where I was overthinking everything 😭

\- I met a guy ("G") who works for the larger department store. I thought we were friendly associates, but he started getting incredibly creepy. He gifted me sleepwear (inappropriate much?) and gave me a letter asking me to come to his place, writing unhinged things like, "Your mom could be the mom I never had." So I send him a very direct message that I was NOT interested in being friends or going to his place or talking to him. The mean message failed so eventually I had to report him to his manager. Luckily, his contract isn't being renewed and he works until mid July.

\- I rent out another property to a company for their employees, and they are basically destroying the house. I upped the rent, they complained about things they broke, and I had to deal with the dispute on top of everything else.

Because of all this, I am completely drained. One of my employees just got back from vacation, meaning I've been working 6 days a week with barely any time for myself or hockey.

Next week, my other employee leaves for a 4 week trip. Right after she returns, my mom goes in for her tumor surgery. This means I am locked into working 6 days a week for at least another 1,5 months.

I’m not even close to being physically or mentally recovered from the crash, the abortion, the girl drama or the stalker drama, and I have absolutely nothing to look forward to right now but work.

Is the universe showering me in bad luck? Should I buy a lottery ticket? Something good has to happen soon, right?

Sorry for the novel, I know I’m well off and that I should be happy with what I have. But I just desperately needed to vent.

Dinner: rice with a perfectly panfried salmon, drenched in butter soy sauce.

Is being extremely unlucky a thing?
