Do pilots take a cut from your exobiology data?

Can I avoid them taking a cut if I dismiss them before turning the data in at the vendor, or is it calculated when I make the original scan?

I just learned about how if you have a pilot on your ship while in the nomad they're reorient it for you when you go back to dock, but I would like to avoid losing out on 10% of my profits.
