Scholarship after taking a gap year

I’m an incoming international freshman and I’m considering deferring my enrollment for one year (taking a gap year).
I was admitted with Provost Award (merit scholarship), and I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.
If my deferral is approved, will my Provost Award automatically be deferred as well, or would I lose it and have to be reconsidered?
Btw i asked the admission office and they said they arent sure…
