Is the world getting more boring capitalistic and being quirky, eccentric, being human is the thing of the past?
I'm an Indonesian who was born in the 2000s and grew up in a small village and feel like the world goes further and further into boringness, if that's even a word. I grew up watching sports like football, MotoGP, and Formula 1 having unique, eccentric personality. Be it Petr Céch and his headgear, Balotelli and his Mohawk, Suárez being called a "vampire" or Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez being so toxic during the peak of their rivalry that it would be called a borderline assault and both get penalized.
But nowadays, I can't even name a unique/eccentric football player. Maybe it's just because I'm now older and understand how the world works better now, but I feel the eccentric, quirky culture is gone. Like showing human being human and showing their emotion is punished.
I also watched Vice's video on YouTube about Bosozuku years ago, and by the end of it, I feel sad. I realize that, yes, it was a bad culture but it also shows how there's practically only a single kid keeping it alive, alone, as the last guy not even doing anything wrong, but just holding onto old culture that no longer have a future because none of his underclassment want to join him. They're probably too afraid to stand out. They don't want to face the backlash or be judged by society and the risk if they're being caught as one.
And nowadays, even if there are any "jagged edges" it's immediately smoothed out or immediately packaged and turned into a "(insert subculture here) core" by capitalism.
Ultimately tho, I'm not one of these eccentric people, I'm also not part of these quirky, unique, and eccentric subcultures. I'm just a regular boring guy giving my views on what I thought is the boring-ification of the world and asking you guys' opinion.
