Am I not seeing something?
I recently moved my whole life to a new place in my country and it’s highlighted to me.. it’s really hard making friends. When I lived in my home town I never thought about “making friends” , i had my best friend who I barely could see as she moved around a lot, but still a good few people I socialised with were just always there.
Now living somewhere where I have no connections, all friend groups I meet are already established and close with each other and I also rarely drink, I understand that is partially the reason why but I just can’t shake the feeling there is something about me that repels people and I have no clue what. Im so scared people think I’m this obnoxious or rude person when they first meet me and I have no self awareness to this at all. I’ll talk to someone and all goes well and boom… the air gets awkward and I can just tell they want to leave the conversation.
I was at a function I really didn’t wanna be at but with the intention of putting myself out there and making friends, I did it. Got chatting to someone who shared similar interests. All went well even got an invite to go out later with them, I went to the bathroom came back and everyone was gone.. like what did I do/say? And I’m not brain dead I notice it happen everytime I put myself out there..
As someone who loves building connections with people and having a laugh. I’m openly envious of people who just have a group of friends or even one they can rely on, talk to regularly and just have a bond and connection that’s not forced. What am I doing wrong?
