Seeking: a humorous article or book extract about the raven as a songbird
I have been looking for some time for a German-language article that I read online a few years ago. Unfortunately, I cannot remember either the title or the author.
What I do remember:
* The topic was the apparent contradiction that corvids belong to the order of songbirds in zoological terms, even though their cawing is anything but singing to most people.
* The text was written in a humorous, essayistic style, not in a dry, scientific manner.
* The author played on this contradiction and tongue-in-cheekily deconstructed the everyday understanding of the term ‘songbird’.
* I have the impression that the article might have been an extract from a book, but I’m not certain.
* I read it online sometime between 2015 and 2023. The book itself, however, may well have been much older.
* The article may have appeared on a news or magazine website (I initially thought of t-online, but I’m by no means certain).
The following have already been checked or considered as possible sources:
* Josef H. Reichholf – *Rabenschwarze Intelligenz*
* Bernd Heinrich – *Die Weisheit der Raben*
* Cord Riechelmann – *Krähen. Ein Portrait*
So far, however, none of these texts has been definitively identified as the article I’m looking for.
Does this article or chapter ring a bell with anyone? I’d be grateful for any information – whether it’s about an author, a book, a newspaper article, a magazine or an online piece.
