my reolink camera sent ~46k motion alerts in 3 months. 76% were noise. so i built a filter layer.

i have two reolink cameras emailing me on motion. the problem isn't that they don't work, it's that they work too well. every shadow, every passing car, every spider on the IR light at night = another email. the real events get buried under empty ones until you stop checking the inbox entirely.

i went back through my own logs over 3 months. 45,737 events processed, only about a quarter actually had a person, vehicle or animal in them. the other 76% was duplicates and empty scenes.

so i built guardian. you point your camera's email alerts at a guardian address instead of your inbox. it looks at each snapshot, decides if it's relevant, drops the noise, forwards only the real ones. same situation repeating gets dropped. something new shows up, it comes through right away.

no extra hardware, no home assistant, no new app. works with the reolink email setup you already have.

it's live, free tier exists, and honestly i'm looking for the first handful of people with this exact problem to try it and tell me where it breaks. if your camera inbox is a graveyard you stopped opening, that's the use case.

guardian.camera

happy to answer anything about the setup or how the filtering decides. and yeah, reolink has person/vehicle detection built in, but it still fires on shadows, insects and rain, and it can't dedupe the same event hitting your inbox 20 times. that's the gap this fills.
