Gothic Remake Weapons

Hell is in the Gothic Remake a lot of weapon variaty i mean like a lot of one hand sowrds or 2h weapons that i will find better and better one or will i get in early game an insane sword an play with that like the whole game? I dont really remember but i think gothic 1 was like that or not?
