25M, lonely, burnt out software engineer stuck in isolation and trying to rebuild my life

I’m 25M and I feel like I’ve hit a breaking point in multiple areas of my life at once, and I’m trying to figure out how to move forward.

I work as a software engineer in a fully remote job that pays very well, but I’m extremely burnt out and miserable. The work drains me, and I feel like I’ve lost any sense of meaning or direction in my career.

A bigger issue for me has been long-term isolation. I’ve had very few friends for years, and I’ve struggled socially for a long time. I started experiencing depression around 24 and I’m currently on antidepressants.

Recently, I tried to change things by moving from hometown, a small city to capital, bigger city to try to build a social life. I actually did manage to meet some people there, and I also met someone through Tinder.

But that relationship turned out badly. she was already in a long-term relationship and didn’t tell me. It ended after about a month and she cut contact completely despite me trying to reach out to her, she has blocked me everywhere and cut contact. It’s only been around 8–9 days since the breakup, so I’m still trying to process it.

Because of burnout, poor living conditions, and emotional stress, I moved back to my hometown. I’ve just arrived back, and I feel very mixed and overwhelmed.

Right now, I’m struggling with a few main things:

  • Severe loneliness and lack of social connection
  • Burnout from my job
  • Confusion about my direction in life (career, relationships, purpose)

My mind keeps going in circles asking big questions like whether I should quit my job, change careers, move again, or just completely reset my life. I also can’t stop thinking about the breakup, even though it was short. She made my life a lot less miserable and while dating with her, I felt like it was the happiest one month of my life.

I’ve tried things like going to the gym to meet people, but it hasn’t worked out socially and now it also feels like a lonely place for me.

I guess I’m posting because I feel stuck between wanting to change everything and not knowing what the right direction even is. I’m trying to figure out how people recover from burnout and long-term loneliness, and how to actually start building a life that feels worth living.

Any advice or perspective would really help.
