Reframing uncertainty/anxiety as excitement?
Someone suggested to reframe anxiety as excitement. So that the baseline is uncertainty about something we expect or hope to be positive for us.
I like the idea. for general rumination this does work for me, in some ways. As ruminating about something positive feels less productive and safe, the reframing grounds me pretty fast. it also highlights the sheer load my working memory has in the moment. Also it tends to take away the fog for a moment, as you would normally anticipate something positive you are excited about, but actually there is no concrete thought to care about.
I'm not sure if this is helpful for compulsions/obsessions in the moment. I often end up in a foggy state of lingering anxiety
when i try to suppress thoughts or avoid them. the reframe actually decouples the sensation of anxiety.
