Lake bon tempe

7'9 med heavy fast rod POS alinox 300 (to be replaced by the tranx but I'm broke)

Any advice on what to throw for good catches? Also read a warning about mercury but I intend to eat what I catch should I be worried?

Rod needs at least one oz and I have some small paddle tails are they any good or I need something bigger?
