VX220 vs Lotus Elise
I have reached an impasse. I would like a very light, very tactile car for B-roads, weekends, and occasional track days. I keep flip flopping between An Elise or a VX220, and some owners Impressions would really help.
Budget: £10-£15k
Elise: is the one I really want tbh. Would love the on road tactility and joy. But I know that the ones I can afford won't be fast enough after a time and I'll be tempted to 'spoil' it with an engine swap, or over-tyring it for track use. Possibly more depreciation proof, and more likely to be a keeper?
VX220: I think this wins in terms of a track car. I'd get a newer and better ckd itiin car for my money. Comfier getting to and from track days and in normal use? I'd feel much less guilty wringing it's neck, modifying it, supercharging it, Honda K-swap, big sticky tyres, lots of options there... But ultimately it's a Vauxhall and whislt I'm not a badge snob I do see them hanging around and being a tough sell if and when the time comes. One option is to get a vx220 and then swap up to an Elise to be a long term keeper, so resale is more important with this route than the Elise route.
Prior car history: AW11 MR2 's, 2zz-ge swapped MR2, Current 987 Cayman S, a bunch of random AWD/semi performance stuff like BMW328i, Prodrive Impreza WRX, Nissan 200SX. Quite happy with mid engined cars without abs and stability control
