Need Advice Choosing Between Game Development and Cybersecurity

Question

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma and could really use some advice. I'm stuck choosing between Game Development and Cybersecurity as my career path.

I've always loved creating things—things that people can appreciate and enjoy. I spent about 2 months learning Unity, and I genuinely had a great time. I could easily spend 8 hours straight working on a project without even noticing how much time had passed. It was one of the few things that made me completely lose track of time.

The problem started when I began reading about the industry. Everywhere I looked, people were talking about the difficult job market, lower pay compared to other software fields, layoffs, long working hours, and how hard it is to break into the industry. Eventually, I got scared and decided to switch to Cybersecurity.

I've now been studying Cybersecurity for about 3 months. I'm definitely not an expert, but I know I can learn it if I put in the effort because whenever I study something, I tend to go very deep into it. That helps me truly understand the subject, but it also makes it difficult for me to tell what I'm naturally good at versus what I've simply become good at through hard work.

The problem is... I don't enjoy it the way I enjoyed Game Development. I notice every hour passing while I'm studying. Blue Team work doesn't interest me in the slightest, and while Red Team seems much more exciting, after learning the basics of cybersecurity, I've realized just how difficult it really is. I'm honestly impressed by the people who have built successful careers in Red Teaming.

Now I'm truly lost.

I don't know what to do anymore. Should I pursue the career I'm passionate about, even if it means less stability and a tougher job market? Or should I choose the more stable path, even though I don't enjoy it nearly as much, and keep Game Development as just a hobby?
