Infold's greediness is the cause of everything, and they deserve everything and more
The fandom is a mess right now, and while Viagra's stan can be annoying, this whole mess is caused by none other than Inflop. And I can say with confidence they are way too greedy for their own good, and now reaping their own soil.
Just like every company, they want to expand their business, and profiting of as many player base as possible. However, they fail to account sometimes two different player base will want different things and they can't please both. Just like the saying "The man who chases two rabbits, catches neither". This greedy company is playing both side instead, and finally pissing everyone, and this Viagra case is their "catches neither" part of the saying.
I'll start first by listing every time this company trying to catch all sides that I could think of:
- Localization choice: they customized all the LIs name based on the language. Every LI have four name. Which is not wrong, but at the same time different localization can give different impression or even characterization. Caleb's OG trope controversy is the direct result of said characterization. Step brother and childhood friend is two very different thing. They even tease blood incest and twin incest in Imperial Thronesong and Yin Yang Sundering. However, thanks to them always skirting around his original trope, his trope become a big talk in 2026 instead of when he debuted in 2025. And personally, as annoying as I have to see Caleb main who deny his trope, Infold is at fault the most here, not people who feel slighted at this "sudden change" of Caleb's story. Why can't Infold just be truthful about their own character writing? Because they are greedy shit who want to make money from everyone. Translating Caleb as her brother would lose them money from Caleb mains who against incest, and honestly it's very scummy from Infold. I couldn't really blame them from crashing out because Infold does sell him as childhood friend to them. In the end this choice left a bitter taste for everyone, one side being lied about the character they spend money on for one year; the other being harassed and told to fuck their irl family member over liking a trope Infold written themselves.
- Skintone/lighting issue: They offer customization of the MC from hair, skin tone, eyes etc. However I will say this is just an illusion of choice, to sell the game as inclusive otome to foreign players. It's painfully clear they wrote their story from Chinese women POV, and the customization is afterthought. They didn't even play testing their outfit/accessories for dark skin tone. That's why their kindled in dark environment made the darker skinned MC looks invisible, and why that one Zayne MC's birthday outfit looks like vitiligo. Now, is it wrong to write their story based on Chinese women preference? No, Asian media are allowed to write and make media that fully representing their own people's view, and if foreigner want to enjoy their media, then accept that it was written based on Asian's preference. HOWEVER, Infold is the one who selling that this game is inclusive to everyone outside of China. They are the one who offered the full customization choice. If they don't want to fully commit at the full customization immersion, might as well just give their MC default looks and background? See how other otome have their MC drawn with specific features and nobody really complaining? Because they never sold their game the way Infold does with their customization feature.
CN fanbase and global fanbase have different culture. The beauty standard is one of them (I have to say, as Asian myself I don't fancy Viagra's design). Another is how they handled their otome game. Chinese otome game stick with fixed number of casts and their game development came from MC's relationship with them. They sell this "grow together with your loved one" fantasy. You probably already heard about LADS' predecessor game, MLQC, tried to add a new LI named Shaw/Ling Xiao. It received major backlash, and they made him a half LI ever since. When LADS have their beta, one of CN fanbase many question is how many LI they will have, and Infold confirmed they will start with three, and then implement two additional LI (Sylus and Caleb). Result? Nobody boycotted their release. In fact, they are quite a successful addition to the roster.
And now, for some reason, they tried again with Velcro. We can theorize so many reason why Infold, knowing their major money maker would be pissed and hated 6th LI implementation, still proceed with it. Not to mention his design is definitely not based of what CN fanbase would fell in love with at first sight. However, one thing I am sure of is this company believing Velcro can expand their hold in the global market, and banking that the CN fanbase will slowly softened up with Velcro over time.
Except they completely missed the pent up anger CN have for their issues. Some were shared with global, example: more addition to chocolate shop, new ways to farm diamond, more battle mode they could play with their LI, more frequent main story update, etc. When Infold released Velcro with home expansion instead, all that pent up anger exploded to heavy backlash and so many whale left the game. Infold were forced to a corner and they released a letter. The important point is they will delete Velcro, Rafayel's fourth myth in July, and Caleb/Sylus will have their MS update in September and November.
And as expected, the reaction are split into two:
- CN are still boycotting. Deleting Velcro and promised a timeline for Caleb and Sylus's main story is nice, but it doesn't answer their demand. When 9th July patch launched and we will only get home expansion and pulse hunter banner, all hell will be raised for sure.
- Global now boycotting to get Velcro back. I don't think I have to explain about how annoying this situation further lmao.
And Infold is ripped apart by both side. They obviously won't put Velcro back, it's suicide for their domestic market. And Global will continue to be annoying for months for their rabies wolf petition thingy. However, as annoying as it is, I don't feel pity at all for Infold. Maybe they can stop being less greedy and for once makes the game more enjoyable.
