Is checking the serial number enough to know the iphone is new and never used

I will get an iphone 16 new sealed, but I heard that some stores repack iPhones.

If I turn on the device and got the serial number from settings>General> About and checked it at Apple's check coverage website, would that be enough to know that I got it new?
