Can original fiction with OCs find an audience on AO3?

Questions/Help?

Hi!

So… I have a slightly ridiculous question.

For the past couple of months I’ve been painstakingly documenting the catastrophically messy lives of my Sims on Reddit. Not in a “here’s what happened today” kind of way, but as actual long-form stories with carefully edited screenshots, dialogue, pacing, and enough emotional damage to keep everyone occupied for several chapters.

People have generally been really lovely about it.

Unfortunately, my current plot eventually reached a point where one character cheats. I tried very hard to write around it, but at one point he touches another woman’s breast and apparently that was the moment my wholesome little Sims photo story was promoted to “you should probably just post this on AO3 instead.” 💀💔

Which brings me to my question.

Does AO3 actually work for stories like this? As in… completely original characters, no established fandom, just fictional people who happen to exist inside The Sims and consistently make terrible life choices?

I’d always thought of AO3 as the place for fanfiction based on existing books, games or TV shows, so I’m not sure whether original fiction has much of an audience there or if I’d essentially be yelling into the void.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s posted original work there. Is there actually a readership for it?

Thank you 🤗♥️
