Shoutout to u/DragonfruitSecure458 [who posted a few days ago about their Nebula failing](https://www.reddit.com/r/projectors/comments/1ui73uf/my_nebula_cosmos_anker_just_failed_after_three/), and especially to u/damomoly who commented: *"Out of warranty, tough luck. They will offer you a 15% off coupon..."*

Well, you called it. It’s not a joke, it’s their literal global playbook. Here is how Anker/Nebula just bricked my $1,300 projector with an official firmware update and tried the exact same coupon scam on me.

# The Issue: Bricked by Official Update

My Cosmos 4K SE was running absolutely perfectly – even on the exact morning of the update. I installed the official firmware update, changed the energy settings to "always on", and the device instantly died into an endless bootloop.

It now stutters at like 3 FPS (even in the naked Android recovery mode) and shuts down after a few seconds with this error:

**The Cold-Start Proof:** I took the projector into a cold cellar room (18°C / 64°F) and put an external fan next to it. It still throws the overheating error within **2 seconds from a completely cold start**. It is physically impossible for any component to overheat in two seconds from a cold start at 18°C. The update completely broke the sensor integration.

# The Absurd Support Response

I contacted support, escalated it to a manager named Shane, and the response was mind-blowing:

1. **The Coupon:** They flat out refused a replacement and offered me the infamous 15% discount code to buy a new one. When I lost my mind, they raised it to 30% "out of pure goodwill".
2. **The "Dust" Blame:** Support Manager Shane claims the 2-second cold-start crash is just *"dust accumulation or age-related wear of the fan after 20 months"*. Dust doesn't wait for the exact second of a firmware update to instantly kill a device.
3. **The Financial Barrier:** They told me that if I want to claim my legal rights, I have to pay for an independent technical engineering report out of my own pocket to prove the update caused it, knowing it costs a fortune.
4. **Illegal Claims:** An agent named Felicia literally tried to tell me that in Germany, the statutory 24-month legal warranty is *"voluntary and offered by the dealer"* (which is completely illegal, it's mandatory law here).

Shane ended the mail with: *"Our decision is final."*

# The Legal Twist

Unlike the US, we actually have strong consumer laws here. Under German law ([§ 327f BGB](https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/englisch_bgb/englisch_bgb.html#p1302)), manufacturers are legally obligated to provide working software updates.

A formal legal notice was officially delivered by the postal service to the Anker Innovations GmbH headquarters in Düsseldorf on June 30. They have until July 10 to send a replacement or a full refund. If they don't, this goes straight to court and the German Consumer Protection Agency.

**Has anyone else experienced error code 01\_000e or sudden bootloops after recent firmware updates on the Cosmos 4K SE? Did the update break your device too?**
