Best area to stay based on activities

Hi All,

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July celebrations! My family is looking into coming to visit your beautiful city! We would fly into Boston, then use public transit/walking to get around. We have a 7 and 9 year old. Timing would be early August.

Our main activity plans are the Science Museum, Red Sox game (woowoo!), New England Aquarium, Franklin Park Zoo, Off the Beaten Path Harvard Square Food Chocolate Food Tour, then general exploring.

What area would you recommend staying (hotel wise) for the most efficient use of the transit system/walking for these areas? Initially was looking at Seaport before mapping things out a bit more on and reading about silver line/reviews on here not being as encouraging. Was thinking maybe instead somewhere around Beacon Hill or Harvard Square? Budget wise not the Ritz but can splurge.
